PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Mid-Continent Life Building, completed in 1926, is a classical masterpiece designed by Solomon Andrew Layton. It features a limestone exterior, Corinthian columns, and original marble stairs. Originally built as office space for the largest insurance company in the United States at the time, the building was abandoned for many years until the Oklahoma Hall of Fame Gaylord-Pickens Museum found a home there. Today, the building is in excellent condition and has been retrofitted to house the museum. This retrofitting process involved meeting ADA requirements, including additional fire stairs, integrating new HVAC, fire protection and lighting, and creating gallery spaces and new offices.
