PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Dean McGee Eye Instiute project was an iconic expansion that doubled their research and clinical space. The four-story atrium lobby serves as the central reception area for the entire facility, guiding patients into an open waiting area where they are directed to appointments and procedures.

The vivarium project was a complete gut and rebuild of an existing laboratory space located in the basement of the original Dean McGee building which QUAD also built. This project occurred near the conclusion of the DMEI expansion project, so our presence and relationship at the facility were known and established. Despite this, demolition was an initial challenge due to the large amount of CMU wall and concrete slab (6-8” thick) removal that was necessary. Site logistics were favorable for movement of debris and materials, but sound and vibration through the rest of the building was challenging. The QUAD team scheduled specific off-hours times for the most disruptive activities. The MEP systems to support the new construction were completely replaced, including entirely new underfloor plumbing.
